Splash for Hope awareness held a fundraising event on Tuesday morning, in Sandton to help fight the HIV/AIDS pandemic, the initiative was developed by the South African National AIDS Council (SANAC) whom deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa is the chairman.
The campaigns seeks to explore and implement innovative home-grown approaches to raise much-needed funds to ensure the survival of civil society organisations working on South Africa’s AIDS response and those that support achievement of the National Strategic Plan (NSP) for HIV, TB and STIs 2017 – 2022 goals.
Deputy chairperson Mmapaseka Letsike says this will result in job losses for employees of these organisations, the major casualties will be the more than 3 500 000 South Africans in HIV care and those still needing care, who continue to rely on these organisations for support, counselling.
Since the launch of the campaign, citizens, organisations, businesses and leaders from across South Africa have shown support and commitment to the campaign by donating and pledging to give to the Splash for Hope fundraising initiative.
The event was attend buy emerging business people who pledged to donate thousands of Rands. Residents can contribute by SMS’ing the word HOPE to 36239.
